If they didn't fear people they wouldn't make the police/army intervene.
They just do enough to have the population release some pressure and demoralize them.
But it doesn't solve the issues that are being protested for. It just accumulates and in the end the stability of civilization will not be enough for even the law enforcement and it will go haywire like we had in the past French revolutions, which I do not want as everyone was killing each other out of any reason, be it in the name of god or something else, in the end it was just extreme levels of anger caused by problems that weren't resolved.
@mangeurdenuage @gabriel @sun if protest solved anything, it wouldn't be held up as a solution.

It should be obvious at this point that we are, globally, being farmed, and managed like farm animals. As long as we act like it, we get what we deserve.

If there's a peaceful way out of this, I'm all ears, but everything I've seen has a big fat hairy unreasonable "if" clause at the front, or some unbelievably retarded premise like, "the people will rise up... and vote them out!"

They have no problem with collateral damages, so perhaps we need to reconsider our position if we do.

It's not dissonance. They're consistent and also quite clear. It's a very personal betrayal. They feel that the people (whom they know to be evil chuds) are the source of their personal pain, and that of those they care for.

This meme was catastrophically wrong despite it's popularity IMO. The vibe I now get from woke isn't "I'm using your morality against you" but more "can you be held to any standard of morality at all? since you clearly don't care about our safety and structures".

I'm not at all saying they're correct about who they attack or that they have any leg to stand on themselves, but I think I'm starting to understand the logic.

@gabriel @mangeurdenuage I don't think it's dissonance, there is some but mainly I think its tech people who don't understand the difference between "what I'm building today" and "what will bad people in power inevitably do with what I built". Boston Dynamics was always funded by the military wing of the government. Their 4-leg robots were built and proposed as "pack animals" that would do grunt work for soldiers. But anybody with half a fucking brain would realize they're building dog and humanoid robots for darpa and someone sometime in the military is going to point the thing at a human.

sometimes it is even "I know some bad uses will happen but it's worth it" and they are just wrong in their calculation (it happens) or they're not imaginative enough about what bad people will do with it. I admit I could be said to fall into the same category as this with AI shit. that is my steelmanning of their position, they're still wrong but could be understandable

from what i see that's how the majority of the political left functions: they either ignore or just don't see at that their actions have consequences in 2nd, 3rd, ... degree as well.

@bonifartius @gabriel @mangeurdenuage right wingers do that too, that is the basis of ignoring ecology concerns. however liberals will ignore second order effects if the first order effect of preventing something will in the short term make them look "mean", like "let anyone across the border, look at this sad child"

@sun

right wingers do that too, that is the basis of ignoring ecology concerns.

Other good examples:

  • We care about family, but not enough to think about what environment healthy families need to flourish rather than languish.
  • We care about "our people" because they're the best, but no none of them are in any way salvageable if they have discernable problems.
  • We love free market economics but if your business is pushed out by VC bros running at a loss you just should have been gambling or something. Idk buy gold.
  • we care about the truth, not feelings up until it kills the feel good vibe and then it's just "blackpilling"

This is explicitly built into Keynesian economics. When questioned about critics of his theories pointing out people will simply change their behaviors in response to his policies he quipped: "In the long run we're all dead." Bonus points for being the earliest example I'm aware of of pretending not to understand in order to make discourse impossible.
