@WandererUber @SoylentGroyper @nugger i can't think of any that assemble as a 2 story unit and Im not sure HUD code allows for this. You would have a very narrow structure. There would also be a question of what to do with the second floor frame. In normal manufactured home construction the steel floor frame also serves as the transport conveyance.

@nugger @WandererUber @SoylentGroyper There's typically a crane on site anyway for the installation. the question would be about wind loading calculations and how much modification would have to be made to the base and foundation in order to not overturn.

or gradually raise it, like a car jack, and then put something below it, and repeat

@SoylentGroyper @nugger @radians if they kept the shipping container format and frame, but stopped forcing themselves to use actual containers (not cheap! Not made for living in!) they could make them with a bunch of, maybe temporary, structural enhancements that would allow the upper models to go on top, kind of like a self-building crane. Or to enable it to "car jack" itself more easily

A lot of stuff is possible. The sand thing is cool but the Egyptians had the advantage that it was a desert so it wasn't a big issue if you left big ass piles of sands everywhere.
I doubt that would be cheaper today than to just use a crane.

@WandererUber @nugger @radians the reason why a crane is bad, is that you depend on other people, which defeats the "life hack" effect. The ideal thing would be modules/trailers that a normal person can handle alone, with nothing but simple tools available without a license.
Building codes/zoning and all that, can be so bad that you need to apply for permission to live in an RV on your own land, it depends on the country&state. Movies are highly deceptive in showing us people having freedoms that we have long lost in real life.
There are these videos "I built my own home in a forest" or "I live in a cave in the woods", but I suspect all of them have an "untold story" behind them and are not actually something you can legally do.
