36@sun @technolyze I have never installed Mastodon anywhere so I can't compare the setup pain, but the last couple times I set up Pleroma and/or Akkoma it still seemed mildly daunting somehow ... just my $0.02 on why so many people continue using Mastodon when it's objectively a bloated pile of shit
@sun @Ree @technolyze I mean not entirely, every Masto server I have an alt on is a low-blocking server, I went to extensive lengths to pick ones where that was true, and the users don't act at all like the assholes being discussed
@sun @Ree @technolyze I suppose you could make the distinction between low-blocking and ultra-low-blocking. I block the worst of the chuds on the single-user server I run for discussing politics, because they're fucking insufferable. and I am pretty hard to offend. I don't block them due to offense, they just add nothing of value to most threads while detracting from the general vibe and the ability to discuss things like a fucking adult.
@sun @Ree @technolyze now this, I agree with. I make mild exceptions where I trust the sysop to handle the absolute worst of the worst, but in general, I need to be the one wielding the banhammer when it comes to instance blocks.
i think drc is the only instance that has done that
and i have been so very close to flatout defeding it
@technolyze @Ree @sun I think the history here is that SPW gets lumped in with those when it has a vastly higher median quality of user, heh
“oh ya you will see people complaining about the blacks all day and animals being murdered until you block the people account hoping to harass you for a couple months until you customize it, but you can play free speech Jesus”
And then if you mention it people will either posture about how cool and for free speech they are or a hell thread about “lol dumb faggot here’s some anal rape and child murder videos “
I think you know what I’m talking about too with mentioning corporatization of defcon
The drift of homogenization of subcultures to generic progressive
@technolyze @Ree @sun there are a lot of servers in the Mastodon Imperial Core which regard disagreeing with 23% of 2020s American so-called "leftist" orthodoxy as being equivalent to the worst of the chuds, and block every server with more than a couple users who fall into the former group ![]()
Alternately, someone on one of the trans instances told me to kill myself and was specific about how to go about it. It was a weird experience. Neither side is innocent in this.
