european tech sovereignty is never actually questioning if you should have a sovereign in the first place

7tehy do fund decentralized stuff too which is a counterpoint I guess but mostly it's "we need a government elon musk"
@sun my hot take on this is that the powers that be want the benefits of a nominally free society but structural changes are forcing the lies/rot/contradictions to the surface.
Societies are being forced to choose between actually faithfully respecting the people or the tried and true model of serfdom with shiny new tech on top. Both paradigms destabilize the status quo so half -measures are at best about buying time and delusional denial at worst.
@scathach @sun I've been to some european tech conferences and talked to people about this and I think it's more like 'we should replace all the american parts of our stack with european publicly funded alternatives'
They definitely do not want our tech industry, funds, or our work culture, there is no jealousy over that.
@scathach @sun no, they are commies using free software as vehicle for their political agenda (i remotely know one or two active in this space). they think state owned/mandated infrastructure is good because currently the state is doing what they like. they hate freedom, they always put libertarianism/voluntaryism in the "nazi" corner - of course while larping as anarchists (because pop culture said it's cool). also they want free government money.
