17I got annoyed with my sister for freaking out about the storm in Alabama and not having any supplies. Like are you retarded? You live in an area with tornados and you've been there 2 years now. You should have a kit. I told her to go check the thrift store for propane camp stoves so she can cook if she needed to.... Among other things.
Those who will not fight in this world of eternal struggle will die.
Yup! When our son was a newborn and we lived in town we all lost power on our island for 2 days. It was winter and cold. At the time we just had some backup batteries and Tyler lit a fire and we moved the mattress in the living room. But it was still dark and gloomy and I was bored out of my mind! We quickly started stocking up and when we moved we lost power often due to the wind. So solar was next.... Plus Tyler got a diesel boat generator off Craigslist and rigged it up to run off of waste motor oil. So we'd run that to boost the batteries. Was pretty neat actually. But after an hour the Internet would go out so that was lame because we were too rural and had zero cell reception at the house.
I need to spend the money to get a whole house nat gas generator setup, I literally live in a coal field, the gas is *right there* on my own property.
I had to call EMS for our neighbor who had a stroke but my phone wouldn't dial over Wi-Fi so I had to run to the end of the road and make the call
And yeah needless to say I pay for a VOIP line for a terrestrial telephone. Sure it relies on my ISP still, but its been very reliable, if my power is up the internet is up, generally.
We have starlink now, it's alright. I notice my memes are slower to upload.
ok well considering most of them don't even have emergency funds in the first place i shouldn't be too hard on them but still
Weeks worth of provisions was just *baseline*, even when I was broke as a joke I would have 25 packs of Maruchan ramen and canned corn in the cupboard.
Having a month's worth of food, toilet paper, and other consumables on hand is just basic common sense
