I cannot restate enough how underspecified and fragmented the fediverse ecosystem is if you try to actually do anything "cool" with it.

@sun i have some appreciation for the misskey approach of 'just put random shit in the object and let god sort it out'

@lain I felt a great sense of freedom working with Egregoros and not trying to ram everything through the mastodon-shaped pinhole anymore.
@phnt @i @lain we have our own network, it's even smaller than mastodon. that prick just wants to build out mastodon, people give him more money so he can pay the hosting costs of dumping even more people just into mastodon.social I guess.
@mangeurdenuage @i @lain @phnt maybe the money they get is separated between hosting costs and developing mastodon but neither of those map cleanly to helping develop diverse activitypub ecosystem, it does happen but it's mostly driven by the needs of adding more features to mastodon

>what's lacking is the fun. That's what the pleroma network needs.
This is a general statement on society as a whole. The fun on the Internet is mostly gone, reduced to ragebait and infighting.

@sun @i @lain Mastodon and Pleroma fixed ActivityPub, the spec as defined is almost useless to build a network on. It's a recipe on how to build your own federated activity-based protocol.
I'm not building the Mastodon network, I'm building a network based on ActivityPub that tries to be compatible with everything while not making compromises because of it. My absolute end goal is a V2 spec that is actually usable, or LitePub V1. And FEPs are just a vehicle for that.
