@RustyCrab she got bronied
@sun @RustyCrab it's so funny how rightoids (correctly) called Harry Potter poorly written shit for children and making fun of it's adult fans for over a decade and then Rowling became a chud and now they all jack off to it
@vriska @RustyCrab I am not an HP fan but it is actually noticeably better children's fiction than anything else I've seen, she put a lot of work into worldbuilding and creative ideas and continuity.
@sun@shitposter.world @vriska@lizards.live @RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co this is a bad take. I loved harry potter as a kid but I remember lots of other great books and authors from my childhood that I am 99% would hold up a lot better. Dianna Wynne Jones, Robin McKinley, Garth Nix and Phillip Pullman are some examples I can think of off the top of my head.
And while I do think Harry Potter was very creative, worldbuilding and continuity in the series are objectively terrible.

@anemone @vriska @RustyCrab you know what I'm a bad fiction reader tbh so I'll say it's better than slop. I can only compare it to philip pullman which I think is overrated tbh
@sun @RustyCrab @anemone @vriska
yeh, his dark materials has a good first book and then falls off a steep cliff, like speed-running narnia with themes reversed

@ageha@tomo.airen-no-jikken.icu @sun@shitposter.world @RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co @vriska@lizards.live the third book especially isn't great but the series still is more interesting than harry potter
@anemone @vriska @RustyCrab @sun
too begin with, yeh. lewis also an insufferable bigot, but narnia's better that way too

@ageha@tomo.airen-no-jikken.icu @vriska@lizards.live @RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co @sun@shitposter.world regardless of flaws, I think I got more out of his dark materials than narnia which despite knowing it was much more than this, I mainly remember for it's finale being yet another one to throw on the pile of evidence christianity is a death cult

meant better than hally port. for here lewis and pullman are basically peers that way, makes sense coming from the same milieu and latter intentionally echoing former, things that get in your head when young and then ouch back out again. guess if it saves some kids from religion that's a step in lyra's favour but
honestly even like redwall has more to it than hally port, though dunno could handle going back to at current age unless with kids to read to

@sun@shitposter.world @vriska@lizards.live @RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co @ageha@tomo.airen-no-jikken.icu aside from maybe the first book harry potter is YA
@sun @RustyCrab @anemone @ageha it became ya by 4
@sun@shitposter.world @vriska@lizards.live @RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co @ageha@tomo.airen-no-jikken.icu i mean the series pretty much follows the exact YA template
@ageha@tomo.airen-no-jikken.icu @vriska@lizards.live @RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co @sun@shitposter.world oh shit i forgot about redwall. my first exposure to authors who write excessively about food
