@RustyCrab she got bronied
@sun @RustyCrab it's so funny how rightoids (correctly) called Harry Potter poorly written shit for children and making fun of it's adult fans for over a decade and then Rowling became a chud and now they all jack off to it
@vriska @RustyCrab I am not an HP fan but it is actually noticeably better children's fiction than anything else I've seen, she put a lot of work into worldbuilding and creative ideas and continuity.

@ageha @RustyCrab @vriska not a lot but I lived with a couple that read the popular stuff. I am just not a childrens book fan and, to correct myself, I did read the first two to see what was up and the first two are not exceptional but are competent, but the later ones I had a friend go over them with me and they are impressively set up imo.
@ageha @RustyCrab @vriska by contrast I have been hearing very very bad things about contemporary scifi writing for the most part which is taken moderately more seriously (when did scifi start getting taken seriously, despite there being some good scifi in the past)

well written children's lit is like katherine rundell. creative children's lit is like garth nix. hally port is neither

@ageha @RustyCrab @vriska it is very conventional thesis for a childrens book, wow I am just like the kid that is mistreated but is actually special but it's elevated to a very good version of that genre.

here read a lot kids' stuff when small of course, lots also while library working to keep up on recommendations for child patrons, and then dipped in now then since
it's plodding and derivative, easily lost in the fog when read among peers. a contemporary competitor, doing basically the same thing but much better, is jonathan stroud's bartimaeus books
