Jon Blow showed Elon talking this matter (in one of his presentations about how his quest to make a good video game will save humanity from extinction) and the latter said something about how technological progress is taken for granted but it's not actually true and he illustrates the point with the space program, which went from putting people on the moon to having to ask the Russians to transport cargo to LEO. He said it's not a guarantee that humans will become spacefaring, if this is the trajectory. This stuck with me.

@WandererUber @professionalbigot69 i have friends who work for suppliers who write the software for those BMW/AUDI cars and they say that they sometimes need to wait a year (REALLY) to get a certificate so they can actually run their software
And when you think about it this is made even more insane by the absolutely miniscule amount of things that are actually being built so what do the people with the rubber stamp actually do in that year? nothing much, I reckon. It's always like that. Like HR. It's all pretend.

@WandererUber @lain The reason Tesla's infotainment is leagues above everyone else is because they make everything from the ground up. Other automakers are using year's old mobile hardware with shitty skins over android, which makes the experience feel like a low end phone from 2018, because it literally is one on the inside. I think Google making a dedicated automotive fork of android is a step in the right direction, but nothing beats putting a full x86 PC inside your dashboard like Tesla does.

i hated the screen in the tesla. it may have better hardware, but the layout is turbo ass. it screams that they're trying to make the car feel like a cell phone when i need to access vital functions for the car. like the lights, which is done through the damned screen
