My 16th birthday was on a Sunday, and the very next day I had my driver's license. Just a few weeks later I was driving 30 miles into the Big City, with five other teens in the car, going to the multiplex movie theater on a Saturday night.
Nowadays they have these "graduated" driver's licenses, and sixteen-year-olds are only allowed to have one passenger in the car with them.

We would pile as many as we could into my 1991 toyota truck and go up to the mall. $5 movie with popcorn and a drink, $10 unlimited laser tag and the 5c nickel arcade was open til 3. I still dream about that truck.
