@kaia @yonle For business and personal email that needs to have actually working deliverability, self hosting can be a pain.

@phnt @kaia first rule when hosting a small or mid scale of email server: use opensmtpd. postfix if you're an absolute masochist

and apparently you guys are going the masochist route.

@phnt @kaia and so i use opensmtpd. it works, even though there's something a bit annoying (like mail delivery a bit slow due to no route. network dependant maybe)

@yonle @kaia Postfix/Dovecot is the easy part, you can even cheat with things like Mailcow and the new-ish all-in-one email solutions written in Go. It's the deliverability that is annoying to maintain. Are you in a bad IP space or inherited an IP that was used by a spammer, good luck getting that reputation back in a reasonable time. Have fun getting deliveries fully working to Gmail/O365 and not get dropped into spam at seemingly random times.

There's also this Stalwart all-in-one thing in Rust — never used it myself, but I've heard good things.

@m0xEE @kaia @phnt will need to wait for 2-3 years of actual usage before it’s actually deemed production ready, as botnets are literally trying whatever they could to log into my smtp, even screaming via AUTH LOGIN on my smtpd.

still interesting though. i wanna check it out later.
