i'm formerly @wyatt8740@tech.lgbt . It's probably a good idea to follow me here if you follow me there, since I'm here basically full-time now (on my own self-hosted instance). I got annoyed with the infighting between instances I want to follow people on, and was annoyed by others having the power to decide who I should and should not interact with.

I like old thing.
<3 C, Unix, shell scripting, old electronics, emacs, & old cute cars. Nearly 30.
Current obsessions include Bubblegum Crisis, the NEC PC-9801, and basically any old computer I can get my hands on.

I'm some kind of non-binary-ish trans-feminine, but I'm not too worried about the specifics of my identity. I am me… whatever that means to you.If you want to call me a guy or something, then by all means do so unless/until i ask you to stop :p

I draw pixel art of varying quality.
I want to be genuine and connect with others empathetically, bidirectionally; we need more of that and to assume good faith more easily. I still am strongly opinionated though, so I'm sorry if I don't always live up to my own expectations. It's okay to remind me about this if you think I need it.

Vetting follows, it's just a vibe check (like, have a discernible vibe and not emptiness). If you have mostly emptiness send me a message explaining why you want to follow or some of your interests and that'll probably be good enough.

LMK if I should CW something or act differently, I want to be considerate and friendly but I don't always know what upsets everyone…
I will sometimes post politics but I try to put it in content warnings unless it's some surreal silly take on politics with few or no ties to reality.

Avatar is my art of Nei, from Phantasy Star II.

Donations would mean the world to me, if you can help. Or job offers. https://ko-fi.com/wyatt8740

@vriska i think a couple might still be around that i was more marginally active on.

but the magic is gone now that no one seems to remember how to use them or that they exist and think BBCode is "confusing" when I figured it out when I was like 10 years old
@genmaicha no, i don't think i can fully envision all the ways something might cause harm.
I do believe that actions I may take to limit harm are largely inconsequential at the scale we are talking about, but that there can be secondary knock-on effects. Like friends or colleagues not seeing me using a framework and thinking "oh this person i admire uses one, it must be good." There's all sorts of complex interplay that makes things more complicated than the two dimensional things I try to illustrate with words. But a guiding principle of mine is that it's important to try when I can, and that persistently taking what is perceived as the less damaging of two choices will (hopefully) in the long term cause less damage than evil maximization.
@genmaicha harm reduction still states that buying an intel processor will give israel more money than buying a banana though

don't try to equate the two because they are not equivalent. Intel has had huge business in Israel for decades (since the 1980s or 1970's actually)
think of it this way:

if you buy a framework laptop new, some your money goes to Intel, which has tons of money in Israel and therefore supports a genocidal regime.

if you buy a used x86 laptop from 10 years ago intel doesn't see a dime.

you objectively have a moral imperative to never buy new x86 hardware with intel processors. And I'd highly recommend not giving AMD money either.

a whole class of the old computers i like will become infinitely less usable under linux in particular the moment toolkits stop supporting X, and this is a genuine problem that should be taken seriously instead of saying "you should just buy shiny new AI-enabled razor thin bendable NPU thing and encourage the bastards ruining tech and just use wayland bro"
