@phnt this is all because distros stop shipping rootfs. I will not elaborate
as an aside I think docker may be eating at the collective ("collective") ability to actually use container capabilities of systems which is very sad. freebsd is obviously very proud of jails and there's lots of resources on them but bsd sucks ass. linux namespaces are similarly awesome but it's like space magic to most people. lxc can easily do nested containers for you, that'd do wonders for some setups but how many project test for this, let alone tell you to do it?

@amerika @menherahair @phnt I implemented an emulator for one to learn more about it but I made some basic mistakes and need to re-jigger it. I think that it's the future but clearly if it has been around since 1966 and has one (1) widescale production deployment, what's gonna change in a year.

When interest shifts widely, economies of scale kick in.

Where we are now is that someone invented the web, and everything has been patched, hacked, and nudged to accommodate that.

But if someone can make it work better and enough people find out, etc.

@amerika @menherahair @phnt I am studying CHERI architecture to understand where I fucked up. After I get my emulator modified, I'm going to point AI at it and tell it to make a FPGA version next and see if it runs like shit on actual hardware because it's slow as balls emulated.

@amerika @menherahair @phnt I was trying to make a lisp machine on top of it but scheme. I got maybe 85% of the way before it became so difficult I gave up. it's a full scheme os it's just not 100% crashe-debugger-fix-continue, it works sometimes but not all the time.

You gotta figure you are partially re-inventing the wheel here, necessarily, but that this means lots of tweaks and fiddling. Still looks like a proof of concept, and with the right funding it could go places... it's all about the timing. Catching the time when people are ready for change because what exists is not working, not merely because they are discontented (because most people are, generally).
