@augustus I have considered vibe coding a total libre replacement that can be loaded with custom assets. it's not that complicated of an app it's creating all the content and it would happily be populated with an actually good japanese lesson plan if I did it.

@sun you just need to stop being so productive okay, you need to consider the effect his has on lazy pieces of shit like me
@augustus I have huge amazing things I have barely even talked about publicly yet. I vibe coded an entire Yamaha OPL3 programming language to help teach me fm synthesis.
@sun also I only used Duolingo for Japanese and I got the point where it wasn't improving me anymore, I heard you need Anki flashcards for kanji next, but instead I just felt comfortable with my current 15% understanding of any given sentence
@augustus I also have a japanese tool I wrote specifically for this for japanese, I use it personally and haven't open sourced it until its decent.
@ageha @sun @augustus Duolingo's system was never good. It uses translation too much and too many unnatural sentences.
Yeah the content is key, but it's not an easy problem to solve. i.e. I have a vocab flashcard deck I made myself I know very well. I added a second deck (pre-made) for the sake of time and I cannot memorize it as well, not even close. To me it seems that working on the content solidifies it much more in your mind.
I've made some tools to automate the most mechanical and time consuming parts, like downloading audios or getting frames from shows and that is very helpful tho

@MechaSilvio @ageha @sun @augustus the biggest problem with duolingo is that it rides on google's voice service to tell if you are pronouncing a word right.
@sickburnbro @MechaSilvio @augustus @ageha imo the biggest problem now is they just use AI to generate all the new content and it's literally just frequently fucking wrong
@sun @MechaSilvio @augustus @ageha that's exciting.
