After this whole ordeal I can see why.
Man, if lain is right about cursor and opus, then boy oh boy am I in for a fun round of side projects.
This GLM fella got off track pretty badly and I had to whip him into shape so he got started. Too afraid to try things. Which is good I guess.

I did put it in writing but I just saw it wasn't clear from the screencap that the clanker literally compiled everything for me. The new version is not available on ubuntu, which is crazy because the other one is three years old.
Thank you china clanker! He did run pip3 --break-system-packages a couple of times for unrelated reasons

Now I keep wondering if Claude messed something up in the first place when I had him install kitty and fish shell. lol

I bonked into a limit super hard the last time I tried (Nemotron, Big Pickle and iirc a Qwen)

I picked notcurses, which is as obscure as they come, to say the least. And it could not even get an image on screen, even with a literal example with an image on screen. Crazy.
I then hand-rolled it with the help of google chatbot and grok because I was too lazy to read documentation or code lol.

This week I asked the same questions of the latest local Qwens and they were able to tell me. I might take a stab at letting Gemma 4 code it for me, just to see how it does.

unless you got less than 16 GB of ram, for sure you can.
I have enough system ram fortunately but even my ol reliable 1080Ti is chugging along. Bit slow compared to Qwen3.5-35B-A3B, but I am running Gemma4-26B-A4B
Which is allegedly a better model.

use llama.cpp if you want something that is just a thin terminal layer, or LM studio if you don't want to mess around with the setup. But I reckon you know that.

It's really fucking annoying to get into it. At least it was for me.
The fact everyone is making mountains out of molehills doesn't help either. Tool calls this, retrieval augmented generation that.

Anyway I'm pretty confident you won't miss the big releases like Google or Qwen models. Obviously Anthropic and oAI are all over the damn news.
