@cosmonautkatyusha@nicecrew.digital biology is easily the most horrifying science ever, I'd rather learn about Eldritch evils living in the cosmos than learning about how your bone marrow can decay inside your bones
Mfw I discovered what a tonsil stone is and had nightmares even though I don't even have tonsils ![]()
mostly harmless, it's a type of cheese, really
Tyler told me about it because he had a sailor with a pen stabbing his mouth to pop out tonsil stones on the desk on night-check one night. I was like
🤢
🤢
@madison @nihilvt @JollyR @cosmonautkatyusha It seems pretty gross at first but if it makes you feel any better, it's really just like food stuck in your teeth. Not a big deal, just annoying.
JUST MUCH MORE ANNOYING BECAUSE THEY'RE HARDER TO GET AT THAN YOUR TEETH REEEEEEEEE

COLLEEN ARE YOU SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE
@madison @nihilvt @JollyR @cosmonautkatyusha I have always had huge tonsils but never got a tonsilectomy or whatever the word is shutup autocorrect it's close enough I'm sure ANYWAY one of them has a bit of a divot or whatnot and so I get to deal with the lovely experience of tonsil stones every once in a while
i've never had anything removed from my body that is supposed to be there.

I'm not sure why tonsillectomies were a thing that people did but I remember multiple people getting them; I don't recall hearing about anyone who had to get one because it was life-threatening so I'm not sure what that was about

@scenesbycolleen @nihilvt @JollyR @cosmonautkatyusha @madcuzbad @madison they get infected and you can die, and they seem to be a vestigial organ with no purpose
@sun @nihilvt @JollyR @cosmonautkatyusha @madcuzbad @madison So it can be life-threatening, I see
So it's like the appendix?
Maybe I should read about tonsils sometime, now I'm curious

@scenesbycolleen @nihilvt @JollyR @cosmonautkatyusha @madcuzbad @madison I'm not endorsing pre-emptively removing anything but yes, I think sepsis? not sure
