Idk what to do boys. I bitch constantly about painting, but customers keep showing up, keep referring me, and keep giving me more work...

Internally I hate painting. But externally I focus on customers, do the stupid shit like clean up after myself, double check everything, am easy to work with, etc.

Like the townhome i'm doing. This lady called three other painters. Every single one of them bounced and just ghosted the client. Like it's so easy to not be a fuck up in this business and they just throw work at you.

But i hate it...

what do???

P.S I have no other opportunities to earn income and my tax obligations cost more than any w2 I qualify for (the last 10 years of my resume is being a contractor and the last 8 is running my own business, so any corporate job gets sus over that).

STOOPID

It's the stupidest fucking complaint. "Oh, my business works and people keep calling me" but idk, i just never wanted to do this as a career.
@Tony @subnetter the market was oversaturated back when I was last looking for one and that was before gpt 3 came out and the models are only getting more powerful (imo amplifying the output of skilled programmers who leverage them but that's neither here nor there), further reducing the number of asses in seats you need, on top of the preexisting glut of cs grads with a few years' experience (hi mom).
I almost got back in ~a year ago but that didn't work out (my fault) and I may never be able to get back in except by extreme and unfair amounts of good luck because of what happened and my long period of being out of the game except as basically a hobby, which, while not worthless, doesn't look as good as if I spent the last half a decade plus bouncing around the startup scene.
I'm finally making enough to make a decent living despite all that but I'd rather go back if I could. I have spent too long on the outside looking in atp to not even blink at retarded work cultures and environments. Working on your ass instead of busting it is worth it (to a point anyway).
@subnetter @Tony Thank you. I will hopefully wind up on the ops/sysadmin side after all the time with my nose to the kubernetes grindstone in my home lab (and generic Linux admin before that). It's where I'm focusing my showcaseable work, anyway so that when the time comes I can show up and razzle dazzle em.
I probably won't wind up in pure swe, but admin who can program and use the agentic stuff they're pushing is not an unmarketable marriage of skills. And databases because I have turbo sql autism but that's a little rusty because I spend most of my time there uttering profanity related to stuffing unadulterated json into the pleroma database.
I just want a w2 with insurance idc if it's dull.

@pwm @subnetter

To my post earlier, they changed laws on this and are mandating all employers provide insurance, so hopefully this gets easier for you.

I'm trying to figure out insurance right now. Got real nervous when I sprayed myself in the face with paint today...

I had the "free" insurance the state offers but its free until you use it and then get a random bill in the mail...
@Tony @subnetter I am raw dogging the insurance thing until next open enrollment, when I'm able to buy into the one we have here. Idr if I wasn't eligible or dropped the ball on it last period.
I have a clinic I pay a membership to (their specialty is people w/ no insurance) and they are really great. Takes care of all my labs and regular visits etc. They're the ones that actually found the only thing wrong with me.
Just going to stay out of the hospital for now lol
@pwm @subnetter I signed up for my states free one last open enrollment, but read their fine print.

Basically im covered but if you use it they asses your income and send you a bill for what you "should have paid" which in health insurance terms is terrifying...

I just pay work comp, pay cash for eyes/dental and pray to god i don't snap a leg in half...
