We're entering the second month of our IT guys failing to clone a git repo due to security reasons. For fuck's sake...

6Our team is split between two companies, both being subsidiaries to the same corpo. Still, the security people treat both as two completely separate entities and enforce weird rules, including gated access to git repos of each other.
@newt it's a shame that security rarely cares about user experience
@genmaicha security rarely cares about deadlines and losing money either. I have an Excel spreadsheet where I document how much development time has been lost due to either trying to convince the security staff that yes, we really need access to that thing, or trying to work around them. I plan to submit it some time, when the sum of lost dollar is significant enough.
@newt @genmaicha I feel like I should keep an Excel too, reflecting on how many work hours were wasted fighting against our slow ass company laptops. Our administrators roll out so many completely unnecessary and bloated pieces of software that just keeps running in the background that it completely kneecaps our arguably powerful laptops.
They even rolled out a backup utility that just decides to create a snapshot of my entire drive in the background, at random times. While it's running, it usually takes up pretty much all the CPU time.
My high score for a single day was the entire workday, btw. I couldn't get anything done

>They even rolled out a backup utility…
I'm not a tech guy but WTF??? How is that department not investigated and policy reviewed?

@tobias @genmaicha @typomustakes infosec departments usually only report to the CEO and that guy is most often either busy or just doesn't give a crap.
