Remote status

in 2021 I was real high strung and wouldn't take shit from anybody. i've calmed down a lot since then, relaxed and learned a lot from not only fedi elders but my own peers .

i made a decision this morning to remove i *think?* 11 defederated servers and attempted to restore their currently actively active users.

there are a few servers left, some will never be removed for reasons (CSAM, for example) and others that we will leave it up to the community to decide whether or not they want to see and interact with those users or not.

in 12 minutes (7 ET / 11 UTC) we will open a poll for poa.st users only that will include ONE INSTANCE ONLY - KF.CC -- and how the defederation should be handled:

option 1: full defederation, all users reactivated
option 2: partial defefeteration, above + users with activity within 24 hours
option 3: whitelist: users deemed by poast community to be of value to the community (i.e. crunklord, etc)
option 4: everything stays as it is, an MRF is written to allow the posts of those who the community deems important (again crunk, josh, whoeever else is important this month on kfcc)

it will be a 24 hour poll and whatever the results will stand.
i know KFcc users for the most part dont like me, some may hate me but I want to try to build this bridge. I told josh privately last summer that I wanted to mend bridges, so let's hope we can.

following this public post will be a private, instance only poll where poast users will be able to voice their opinion. when the results are final, there will be a third post and hopefully a resolution.

love you guys

@graf inasmuch as I have a poast alt but am not a regular user per se, I believe that poast should federate with kiwifarms.cc. Users who need to not see the instance as a whole or individual kf.cc posters have sufficient tools at hand through domain mutes and user blocks to tailor their fediverse experiences to their wishes and not negatively impact their fellow instance users who may wish to communicate with this node, forcing them to seek alternate hosts in turn.
We as instance administrators should facilitate the interconnected network, and not segment it needlessly. Users who escalate personal grievances to network operators imperil the network at large. I think you personally should block or mute people you find distasteful, as an example to your users in correct behavior.
Thanks for reading my blogpost.
last fall josh moon came to his poast account @josh and extended his hand to me in a time of legal need (we ended up with the literal saul bateman, acts like saul looks like bateman) so we didnt go with his lawyer but the fact that he reached out to me in a time of need I told him that I'd like to bury the hatchet, mend fences, within the confines of the law, so I am willing to do that. but I am leaving it up to my users to make the decision because you guys pay for this site, I only do when you guys refuse to

I removed MK2's defed because I believe just becuse he is a gang bang begging nigger he should be able to call me one. if they are going to do nothing but post dox, they will get an individual defederation. I am writing the MRF for it now. each user will get a ban of small increments. 1, 3, 5, 7, 14, 10000000 and so on. because it's through fail2ban it will be easy to implement. it can even have its own rule pleroma-cant-be-normal

I don't think you ever had any action on your instance. I will consider NPC later in the day when I have a nap (40 year old sensitive man covered in shitty tattoos btw) but I will probably revoke his as well.

we are trying to bring people back to fedi. last year we had like ~22k active and now its like 5, maybe 6? and even if there's pockets of people arguing about me there's still people here.
this is 100% why I am leaving it up to the users
I would remove the defed and just deal with users on a per-user basis but there are some caveats:

crunk will not moderate - i can respect him for that
registrations are open
the purpose of the root website is to collect and document "lolcows" including fedi users, which is of concern to me as an administrator but i realize there is nothing I can do to alter user behavior. that being said, the purpose of the root website kind of leads to the purpose of the instance.

if there was some way we could filter out like, PII or something that would be amazing. but we can't programatically (i dont think?) yet. the only reason we care is because poast is a beacon for fedi like other larger instances are so somebody sends a link to a post on kfcc through a poast link, they see it on poast, it gets reported to our ISP and then eric and I have to have another round of double dutch rudder. there are options to mitigate that, like disabling viewing remote posts which for most people would be a fine example but again, poast gets linked to a lot of places which leads a lot of people to poast, which gives us exposure, exposure = maybe more users? so is the exposure for more users worth leaving it enabled? also we regularly share links from other instances (like in the matrix) through poast as to avoid leaving IP trails and give our users a tiny bit more privacy. there was an option somewhere I saw in 2.10.2/nicolium somewhere to force external links to be redirected but I cant for the life of me find it and I'm so tired man. I will try looking in the morning, if I can find it then I will just undefed. otherwise the poll rules
