this is gonna sound silly, but could someone write step by step instructions on how to go to a bar in the USA? I'm talking autistic details on ordering, paying, tipping.

You hand them your card your card and ask them to open a tab, you order whatever you want and just tell them the name on your card and they'll charge it to your tab. At the end of the night tell them you want to close your tab out, they'll ring you up bring you a receipt and hand you your card back. Standard tip is 20%. Don't tip more than that unless you're going to bang the bartender later.
Go up to bar, sit at least one seat away from the next patron.
Bartender will ask you what you're drinking, if you don't already know because you're drinking something standard (jack and coke, domestic beer), ask for the drink menu or a list if you're drinking a cocktail or something more expensive (this would be passé at a dive bar). Alternatively, ask about any specials they may be running (it will not be nice stuff but it's usually a pretty good deal). Avoid ipas unless you like pot.
When you order your last drink you can go ahead and close out, or you can wait til you finish it to ask but you may wind up sitting there a minute if they're busy and don't notice that you need to be checked on.
Standard tipping is 10-20% and depends on how cute and or nice to you the barkeep was, though generally I just leave a ten.
@ins0mniak @pwm @Wrest but the dudes said IPAs rock @ the barcade
I really like that you were bold enough to ask this. I’ve spent a lot of time in all kinds of bars, if you have any more questions feel free to ask.

I've never really made a specific bar trip by myself, but sometimes I find myself there and I've always just done something like this:
Walk up, pull wallet out
>Uhhh can I get uhh a gin and tonic? How much is it?
Pull out the cash, tender tends the drink
>Keep the change
or if it's a pitcher for tips I try and make sure they see me put a couple bucks in... this is probably a bit too autistic
but yeah that's it, I never really tried start conversation or anything, so if that's your goal, gl and Godspeed you black emperor 🫡
Yeah, but we are still just talking about a cash tip here and making the bartender like you. Getting a glass mug of some local swill is retarded. Budweiser is better than all the local retarded shit…
And I don’t think anyone has covered this, but if you’re paying with a credit card, they will run the card for your total amount and bring it back to you. At that point, you can add a tip, total it up, and sign it.
If all I can do on this thread is answer one small piece of @Wrest bar tipping etiquette question, I will feel like I accomplished something…
@Wrest Go to bar.
Ask for drink.
Give bartender card.
Answer ''Yes" when they ask if you want to open a tab.
Drink. Order. Repeat until done.
Ask to close tab.
Receive card back and bill.
Do math on receipt.
Put card back in wallet.
Get on the floor.
Walk the dinosaur.
Leave.

Sensory integration in a way that I completely understand and find overwhelming at times, this is maybe the most relatable take I've ever read at random.
