They invented Bipolar 2 to have a serious sounding diagnostic for what was previously diagnosed as borderline personality disorder because it was overwhelmingly diagnosed in women and it looked bad, as if they were Greeks simply diagnosing hysteria.
So now we have hysterical childless women lumped in with people with a serious neurological psychotic illness.
