I get the sense that Kharg Island may be misdirection and they might actually be positioning to attack the Houthis. If they don't first secure Bab al-Mandab - they'll get choked off undergoing any operation involving Hormuz.
Regardless of what the real target is, any troop concentrations will be hit by missiles. I don't know how they are expecting to conduct any ground operations in the region.
Yeah... it's a massive gamble either way. But if they are intent on a long term military engagement - I don't see how the first step isn't securing Bab al-Mandab.
