@vitalis one time was at a Japanese Summer Matsuri in Phoenix, Arizona and Homestuck cosplayers showed up. To a matsuri.
@sun @vitalis We pulled up to Mitsuwa, a Japanese grocery in Chicago, and saw cosplayers in the parking lot. My wife was in a Sailor Moon shirt and was so upset at the thought of being one of them that we left.
Also, for "dress up as whatever" holidays, they do that for bachelor parties in Spain. My brother in law was in Aragon and told me about a bachelor party where the groom was dressed up like Jesus, had to carry around a cross with the bride's picture nailed where the INRI was, and his buddies were all dressed up like Roman centurions
