(boosts welcome/pls) anybody out there who switched from the business software engineering full time grind to more flexible contracting/consulting work? how did you make the switch? are you happy you did?

im a senior at a public software company (and did startups previously) and like the pay is nice, but really i would like to have more time and energy to do things i care about...
