I respect that restaurant is one of the hardest businesses to keep surviving but nearly every other country does it without tips so you can't really say it's "necessary" to not just pay your employees a fucking wage, and it's insane that at a national level the government just said "yup you don't have to pay your workers in a restaurant like you pay everybody else in every other job"

@sun it was necessary for all the low-quality teenage workers who would otherwise not get employed until later in their lives
... not that we have those anymore

@mrsaturday @apropos if tipping were a "real thing" they wouldn't be taxed in any way shape or form
@sun @mrsaturday @apropos tipping is just evil and i hate it. i remember someone on here who defended it for some reason and would get mad at a hypothetical customer who doesnt tip rather than his boss who doesnt pay a full wage. how can someone be that dumb?
@Nudhul @apropos @mrsaturday it's really the greatest system for the evilest version of capitalism, if you defect, you are directly affecting the server not the company and you're the asshole not the employer.

@sun @Nudhul @mrsaturday it's a direct economic subsidy for assholes, in other words. Normalcy is taxed.
@apropos @Nudhul @mrsaturday I think a decentralized approach may be best, ppl start throwing bricks through windows sharpied to say "no tip" randomly until it's more expensive to fix windows than shaft the wait staff
@apropos @Nudhul @mrsaturday I'm a free market guy but you have to be able to signal stuff like this effectively which means breaking out of their tricks to lock you into paying, in any way possible

Whenever I think of tipping I think of this iconic scene from Reservoir Dogs.
