@chudsky works shockingly okay on kaios

@npc @chudsky that's android, not KaiOS

@maid @chudsky i thought kaios was just a gimped version of android anyway. i just kind of assumed that's what this thing ran

@npc @maid @chudsky kaios was forked from firefox os iirc, so it's a minimal os with an android kernel that boots direct to firefox

@kernow @npc @chudsky @maid it leverages the Android HAL but uses no other Android features. I used to have the flagship Firefox developer phone and I loved it.

@kernow @chudsky @maid @npc The thing that made it really difficult was, since it absoluely required the HAL, as soon as an android phone or android release went out of support, FxOS support for that device had to end too. They didn't have the resources to maintain something like that independently.

IMO FxOS was the last great thing Mozilla ever did and when they shuttered it my heart sank re mozilla and never recovered.

@sun @npc @chudsky @maid that sounds very different from the 2018 nokia bananaphone experience. why didn't ffos take off?

@kernow @npc @chudsky @maid Mozilla just didn't have the resources to do such an ambitious project.

@kernow @chudsky @maid @npc also tbh it was slow at the time, but phones got more powerful and firefox on phone got better so kaios is more relevant now on feature phones. I love love love the web application dev model.
