@vriska @icedquinn @subnetter @ube If I had a solid work-from-home job and I knew it'd be stable and consistently work-from-home, I'd give it some serious consideration. I have a couple places I'm looking at for my next step. @sun said that people in the Midwest should look at getting out at some point and I intend to.

@sun @subnetter @icedquinn @ube @vriska Our governor's spending billions on trying to create a quantum computing lab in South Chicago. I admire the enthusiasm but I highly doubt it's going anywhere. Why there instead of by Batavia or Geneva, where there's already a large scientific community thanks to Fermilab?

@subnetter @icedquinn @sun @ube @vriska In my case? The weather kind of sucks, the culture's moribund and work-focused, the natural beauty is sporadic at best, and it's a bit of a fishbowl. It's just not great at... anything, really. It's pretty good at best, and the old reason to live here (cost of living) died thanks to covid and RealPage. I'm in the Chicago metro which is about as lively as the region gets, and I'm still feeling a little stifled.
