@Ghislaine that's surprising, as I was taught McClellan was incompetent

@genmaicha @Ghislaine the Irish volunteers loved him
@genmaicha He was overcautious and didn't use the unions massive material advantages to anything like their full potential. He also consistently relied on bad intel and always thought lee badly outnumbered him lol
@genmaicha @Ghislaine lincoln was a bloodthirsty faggot and mclellan was seen as overly cautious because of his refusal to commit everything in battle. mclellan would rather not lose than win and would hold onto his reserves because he wanted them for a perfect move to break the lines. i think he has been unfairly judged, but he was still flawed
@MachineMadeDog @genmaicha He consistently thought he was outnumbered 2 to 1 in every battle so I get his caution at some level but given that he always had a hefty numerical advantage he was just a loser in the end imo. Believing dumb shit and being a sucker isn't a good excuse.
@sapphire @MachineMadeDog @genmaicha Antietam was a draw because he didn't press the attack (he thought he was only fighting half of Lee's army bc there was no way he had so few guys right???). it's just counted a union victory because attritional battles played into their favor. Confederates got away scot free from what should have been a wipeout
@sapphire @MachineMadeDog @genmaicha If Lincoln hadn't replaced McClellan the south would have gotten away clean imo. He didn't have what it took to take the fight to them and without a successful invasion, war weariness would have resolved the war for southern independence.
