I know I've been on the "Gamergate put Trump in the White House" wagon for a while, but as I do more retrospectives I've come to the conclusion that the internet overinflated its own ego. I now lean towards the whole Trump thing being a huge set up, including and especially the anti-Trumpism from the leftist media.
