Probably an ignorant question but how well can AI write code and are there any ways to do so that are "offline" to keep said code proprietary.

@Xenophon honestly I can't believe there's not a "model in a rack" you can get an enterprise license for from some of these companies for "secure" purposes in exchange for a shitload of cash.

@pwm @Xenophon possibly, but from their perspective it makes a lot more sense to just offer people the deal with the devil-- give them all your data, make their infrastructure an irreplaceable part of your operations etcetc and don't you worry your pretty little head about hosting your own shit

@pwm @Xenophon also you don't have to hire techs to go and support it on-site like a mainframe.

(though come to think of it big iron was a business that apparently thrived on that basic pattern for a long time so idk maybe it makes less sense in a world of ubiquitous multi-gigabit links)
