@phnt @mushroom_soup years ago it was true, I don't know about today. but there are countless videos overlaying songs that all just sound the same structurally, and not superficially like "there's only so many progressions"
@phnt @mushroom_soup anyway my position is that AI music only threatens bad music because they are both bad music and thus in competition on how commodified it is, which is exactly what commercial music has always done. so human slop music is clearly going to lose in the long run. people crying about the artistic integrity of the top 100 chart lol
@phnt I get people not wanting AI crap injected into every part of the human experience, the problem is that this is just kind of the final step of a century long process of commercial entertainment and the final step is where you realize you were in the matrix the entire time and violently react to the threat of being unplugged.

@sun @phnt AI's the most exciting for people who have already reduced other humans to what AI can do. Fire most your programmers and instead have huge teams of brainless code monkeys loosely wrangled by the surviving actual programmers? Then you're absolutely blown away: AI can totally replace these people that you've boxed into being cheap and replaceable!

@apropos @phnt I think that scaling things out, automating, specializing, relying on metrics is what naturally happens as societies grow in size. small artisan commune has the highest and most creativity density but it doesn't scale.
so like to me, what I implied, is that you go down and interact on your close friend/family level where the scale is manageable. there's not a good reason that, because there is pop music for a hundred years now, people stopped getting together and singing on their house porch. you can still do that. you should still do that. AI doesn't wreck that.
