@Kazak @deprecated_ii Counterpoint: most people who are going to "benefit" from this are not particularly creative and nothing new is really offered in the area of artistic freedom that the internet doesn't already provide. Due to direct funding a lot of the "committee" is already dead for independent artists who have an audience.
@Kazak @wgiwf there's a saying that art comes from struggle (or whatever those goobers say), and I used to laugh at it because I thought it meant you had to be one of those performatively tortured starving artist types to make "real" art. like pain itself was somehow an essential part of the work

but I have a new appreciation for the saying now. it's not about suffering, it's about putting in the work to develop skills, to learn the craft and the body of work relevant to what you want to do, and that journey turning you into someone who can make good art

with AI, almost nobody will put in the work anymore. they can jump straight to an outcome, but the outcome will be shit

it's climbing a mountain vs having a helicopter drop you off at the top
@deprecated_ii @Kazak @wgiwf This is something I've come to recognize too. I started making art with AI and the outcome was "good enough". I learned basic editing skills to fix errors and improve composition. Reprocessing the image at a higher resolution helps. But flaws always slip through. Most people might not notice, but I do, and it bothers me.
I thought I could train my own pixel-space DiT for generative upscaling, because starting with an image is an easier problem than generating an image from scratch. Three months of arxiv rabbitholes later and I can get the model to perfectly encode (overfit) a single image in a few minutes. Still a useless prototype right now.
Honestly I think that time would have been better spent learning to draw or learning Blender. I think a hybrid approach combining traditional skills with AI has merit. To use your metaphor, the helicopter dropped me off at the top of the mountain and now I'm trying to climb back down. :brainlet:
