@lumi@snug.moe There have been many talks about LLMs and copyright in the past on fosdem. Including one by Zoe Kooyman from the FSF.
However they are anti LLMs. They want LLMs to be available, but in a freedom respecting way. Which I think is a lot more nuanced than being against a specific technology completely.

@SuperDicq sadly i don't think there is much nuance to be had, currently
if the genai industry collapses right now, maybe we will be able to have a sane discussion on it in 20-30 years
but at least until then, i'll be completely against it

@lumi@snug.moe The free software movement doesn't shy away from accomplishing things that might take many or years or even multiple decades. We've done it before. Remember how we didn't have a free software operating system 40 years ago? Now we do.
So don't be a doomer about it. Saying it will never be possible is not productive.
You should go and contribute today to build a solution. I think that is a much more productive form of activism than just simply yelling about how much you hate everything without offering solutions other than not using the thing.

@SuperDicq for now, i think the only solution is complete rejection, just like we should completely reject proprietary software

@lumi@snug.moe We should reject proprietary LLMs like all proprietary software.
But we shouldn't get the way of research and projects trying to free LLMs, instead we should encourage it.
