We do use ounces in a lot of circumstances, particularly given we import so much stuff from USA. Also pounds, inches, feet, etc. Especially in the skilled trades. But weirdly we prefer metres to yards, kilometres to miles, etc. It's really a mixed bag. The metric system was only adopted within my own lifetime and I remember in school when they made the switch and we had to relearn everything differently. 50 years later and the rest of society hasn't fully caught up yet.
