Gonna me lazy for meal prep and just bought a loaf of bread instead of baking from scratch this week. Doing gumbo with bread (rice?) for dinners and roast beef and cheddar sandwiches with pickled shallots and an apple coleslaw for a side.

6Smallest white/green cabbage there was like 6lbs... I think I'm going to have to make some sauerkraut with leftover cabbage.
It's cheaper to buy coleslaw premade or from a kit but damn I can taste the sugar and I'm certain what's not sugar is soybean oil. I'm paying a premium just to know what the hell is in my food.
@Druid
How is making sauerkraut more expensive than buying it? You literally just throw cabbage in a jar with water and salt (2% by weight) and wait a week. Add something that has tannin in it (e.g. grape leaf, maple leaf, tea bag, etc) if you want it to stay crunchy. It works with basically any vegetables, especially if you add a bit of previous brine and/or a dash of live cider vinegar to start. Plus a lot of the time with cabbage and the like you can plant the base and it will grow back.

@toiletpaper Nah, it's the coleslaw that's more expensive to make than buy premade from the deli.
Cabbage is cheap as heck though man. It’s like the poor man’s vegetable
@BigBirdPhoenix @toiletpaper It is, but the smallest one I could find was massive, I only need half of it for the coleslaw so the rest is going to be sauerkraut. Strangely, even with a coupon bananas are still cheaper than cabbage.

I find I can rarely eat a whole head of cabbage by myself before it starts to go off, so what I've started doing is just planting it in a pot of soil, and stripping leaves off only as I need them. If it gets close to the bottom I just make some kraut from the last bit.
