It would be as if, during the us civil war, the confederates never surrendered but instead retreated to key west, and china maintained a formal policy of ambiguity as to whether key west was a part of the USA or confederacy but actively funded its military efforts.

@Nimbius666 Reunification is going to take place no matter what. Be it peacefully, slowly, progressively over time—or suddenly and by force. It's an inevitability, and eventuality. I think it's quite bizarre that Americans care as much about the "sovereignty" of Taiwan as they do. Wouldn't ie be extremely strange and odd if Chinese were extremely outspoken about Puerto Rico or something if PR opted to extricate themselves from association or jurisdiction of the USA? @7666 @demha

@7666 @adiz @demha Taiwan forms an informal member of the fic (first island chain) defense posture as part of the USA containment doctrine of China. Unification would be a massive disaster for the USA as it means china officially has bluewater capability for trade and defense, something Washington has spent 45 years trying to prevent.

@Nimbius666 @adiz @demha It would be quite funny if Taiwan suddenly went "hmm you know what maybe the west ain't it" from our recent actions and just throws itself into the arms of china. however, with what happened to hong kong in recent view, they will have to choose between "evil" and "evil", as "one country, two systems" didn't seem to last all that long.
