By using an LLM, one is following mainstream doctrine, supported by all the powers that be: companies and states that pour trillions into it, medias and assorted “leaders” that act as a relay for the “inevitability” and “progress” narratives.

And yet, we keep reading that LLM users “fear being caught up in an anti-LLM witch hunt” and similar things.

As if their choice was the one under attack.

@civodul Could it be that those worried about being witch-hunted are starting to feel guilty about helping to concentrate power in the hands of a few authoritarian organisations and helping to accelerate the climate emergency?

@boud Maybe the remains of bad conscience?

And knowledge that there are still people out there who don’t surrender and will point out the ethical problems everyone knows about—and thus paint LLM users as complicit.

@civodul @boud i use LLMs partially because of these concerns. they say LLMs trained on copyrighted material is wrong. i say copyright is wrong, and i support every attack on copyright

@condret @civodul @boud llm acceptance is actually inevitable even if people hate that fact, sorry for confronting reality. that doesn't mean it's inevitable they'll be used for everything or should be used for everything but you can run them on a gpu, if one thinks they're going to go away they're just an obvious fucking idiot.

@sun @condret
Abolition of private property is also the Abolition of copyright

Anti-AI sentiment is the propaganda of the the bourgouise!

@boud @civodul

@dielan @boud @condret @sun @civodul >Anti-AI sentiment is the propaganda of the the bourgouise!
Yeah we'll see about that when you're a slave for OpenAI

@meso that's the joke
