@djsumdog it could also be an attempt to complete the managerial revolution, where credentialed experts govern society, rather than the wealthy. any branch of science that proposes solutions to societal issues typically makes an implicit argument for ordering society in this manner, sort of like how Socrates thought philosophers (i.e. his own people) ought to rule. we saw this tendency in action during covid.
