@Flanker general motors stopped offering cars for families of 4 and every automaker followed them. Cars with higher GVW do not require the same CAFE (emissions) standards as light vehicles so they can get away with making them, charging more for them, and not offering anything else
@creamqueen I've still yet to hear a good explanation about consumer trends though. I'd reckon that in Australia the rot started to set in after ford and holden died but even so there were some respectable (albeit not very exciting) sedans during and after that period. Like literally the only advantage crossovers/SUVS held (and still hold) at that point was being obnoxiously tall and that's it. Like the cheap tech-filled Chinese SUVs everyone's creaming themselves about also aren't unique, that could all be transplanted into a sedan or hatchback and probably cost a few thousand less
